Sam and her son are finding their path forward with the help of Sojourner House MOMS. The program has not only given her a safe place to stay as she works toward recovery, but it has also taught her many valuable skills and helped her build a bond with her son. One of the highlights of the program for Sam has been the life skills and personal finance classes she has been able to take to prepare her for life after the program. “They’ve taught me so much about where to put my money and how to manage it,” she said. “It’s helping me build confidence to know that I can do it.”
Her time at Sojourner House MOMS has helped Sam learn what she wants for her future and the type of life she wants for herself and her son. She can finally envision a life without her substance use. “I relapsed while I was here, but this place helped me realize that I didn’t ever want to feel that way again,” she said.
She most appreciates the work ethic and pride in ownership she has learned from maintaining her apartment for her and her son. Keeping her son was an important part of her decision to come to Sojourner House. “There wasn’t any other programs that accepted my son and me,” Sam said. “This place is awesome. It’s helped me so much.”
Though the process and road to recovery is difficult at times, Sam is grateful to be where she is and learning the skills she needs to create a better life for her and her son. “I’m so glad I went through this program. It taught me so much that I needed to learn. It brought me to a place where I could get a job and an education,” she said. “I needed this my entire life and I didn’t know it.”
