Recovery changes everything. It transforms lives, reunites families, and creates new possibilities for mothers and children. But lasting recovery depends on more than compassionate care. It also requires strong systems behind the scenes that empower staff to deliver the highest quality treatment and support.
That’s why we are incredibly grateful to the FORE Foundation for investing in the future of Sojourner House . Their grant will support the selection and implementation of a new electronic health record (EHR) system.
At first glance, an EHR system may not seem as inspiring as a new playground, renovated apartments, or family celebrations. Yet, this investment will strengthen every aspect of the care we provide. Ensuring that mothers and children receive more coordinated, efficient, and responsive support throughout their recovery journey.
Substance use disorder treatment has become increasingly complex. Providers are expected to meet evolving clinical standards, coordinate care across multiple systems, document services in greater detail, and demonstrate measurable outcomes. All while ensuring that every participant receives compassionate, individualized care.
Why Infrastructure Matters
For organizations like Sojourner House, having the right technology is no longer a luxury. It is essential.
Our current system has served us well but no longer meets the growing needs of our programs or reflects today’s best practices. A modern EHR will allow our clinical and support staff to spend less time navigating paperwork and disconnected systems and more time doing what they do best: supporting mothers and their children.
Supporting Better Care
The new system will improve how we coordinate services across our residential treatment program and supportive housing programs, creating a more seamless experience for the families we serve.
It will help us:
- Improve care coordination
- Strengthen individualized treatment planning and documentation
- Streamline admissions and referrals
- Track participant outcomes more effectively
- Support compliance with evolving clinical and regulatory requirements
- Generate data that helps us continuously improve our programs
Most importantly, it gives our staff better tools to support every mother as she works toward recovery and long-term stability.
Investing in Sustainability
Like many nonprofit healthcare organizations, Sojourner House operates in an increasingly challenging funding environment. Changes in reimbursement models, documentation requirements, and quality standards require organizations to continually evolve.
Investing in infrastructure today helps ensure we can continue serving families tomorrow.
A stronger technology platform will improve operation efficiency, enhance our ability to demonstrate outcomes, and position us to grow services as community needs evolve. It also lays the foundation for future program expansion, allowing us to better coordinate care across a broader continuum of recovery supports.
Simply put, when our systems work better, our staff can work smarter and the families we serve benefit.
Recovery Changes Everything
Every day, we witness mothers rebuilding relationships with their children, securing stable housing, finding employment, and creating healthier futures for their families. Those transformations are made possible by dedicated staff, evidence-based care, and community partners who believe in investing not only in direct services, but in the systems that make those services possible.
The FORE Foundation’s support recognizes that sustainable impact requires both compassionate care and strong organizational infrastructure.
Their investment will help ensure Sojourner House remains equipped to meet the needs of families today while preparing for the opportunities and challenges of tomorrow.
We are honored to be among the FORE Foundation’s grantees and grateful for their partnership in strengthening recovery services across our community.
Recovery changes everything. Building the right foundation makes that change possible.
