September is National Recovery Month—a time to honor the strength, resilience, and courage of individuals living in recovery, and to recognize the communities that walk alongside them.
At Sojourner House and Sojourner House MOMS, recovery is more than a word. Recovery is a journey that changes lives and shapes futures. Every day, we see mothers reunite with their children, families find safe and stable housing, and entire generations gain hope for a better tomorrow.
Why Recovery Matters—Now More Than Ever
Addiction doesn’t happen in isolation. It impacts mothers, children, families, and neighborhoods. But healing doesn’t happen in isolation either—it requires community, compassion, and opportunity.
Our continuum of care meets families wherever they are in their recovery journey:
- Residential treatment that keeps mothers and children together
- Supportive housing that offers stability while parents work toward self-sufficiency
- Aftercare and community connections that sustain long-term success
In the past year, we’ve served 107 adults and 145 children, helping 64 families find stability in Sojourner House MOMS housing—with a 90% housing retention rate. These are not just numbers—they are stories of transformation made possible by supporters like you.

Walking Together for Recovery
One way to show your support this month is by joining us for Allegheny County’s Recovery Walk on Saturday, September 13. This inspiring event brings together people from across the region to celebrate recovery, honor those we’ve lost, and strengthen our commitment to a healthier, more supportive community.
Whether you walk the full route, cheer from the sidelines, or simply show up in solidarity, your presence sends a powerful message: recovery is possible—now more than ever.
Breathe, Stretch, and Connect at Yoga in the Streets
We’re also excited to host Yoga in the Streets on Saturday, September 20 at Kingsley Center. This free, family-friendly event offers more than yoga—it’s a day of wellness, community education, and fun for all ages. Highlights include:
- A variety of yoga and movement classes for all skill levels
- Resource tables from providers across Allegheny County
- Activities for children
It’s a celebration of connection and self-care, and a reminder that wellness is a vital part of recovery.
