Sojourner House Staff Member Named Community Mentor of the Year

Sharon Jones, clinical supervisor of East Liberty-based Sojourner House, was named Community Mentor Leader of the Year in August, by the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work.

The award honors those who display outstanding mentorship of student interns from the university. Jones, who has worked at Sojourner House for three years, is responsible for the overall monitoring of 14 bed residential alcohol and other drug treatment programs for addicted women and their children at the six-month faith-based residential rehabilitation program. She ensures that the program and the physical plant meet county and state standards. Jones works with interns from area colleges throughout the Pittsburgh area.

"Sharon has been instrumental in providing students in the community with the best possible experience in working with addicted families. She is extremely knowledgeable in the field of addiction and does a great job in providing a stimulating, interactive environment for the students," said Joann Cyganovich, Sojourner House Executive Director.

Born and raised in Williamsport PA, to the parents of the late Rev. Joseph L. and Dolores Harris, Jones graduated from Chatham University, with a masters degree in counseling psychology. Jones and her husband, George, live in Pittsburgh. They have two children, a son, Aaron, who is in graduate school at University of Villanova, and a daughter, Jasmin, who is in her second year at Thiel College.

Based in Pittsburgh, PA, Sojourner House's provides faith-based residential treatment and other services to addicted women and their children to break the intergenerational cycle. A nondenominational faith-based agency, Sojourner House partners with other agencies and community groups to enhance community involvement and program quality.
