On October 4, 2011 all charitable donations made through PittsburghGives.org received a portion of The Pittsburgh Foundation’s $500,000 matching pool. Every year we are amazed by The Pittsburgh Foundation’s “Day of Caring” donors. This year donors helped Allegheny and Westmoreland counties raise 6.4 million dollars. Sojourner House raised a total of $2,255.00 and will be matched 14.5 cents for every dollar. Thank you, thank you!

A Message from the Executive Director Dear Friends of Sojourner House,When I come to work in the morning, I have a sense of pride when I see the bright faces of our kids eagerly awaiting the school bus with their mothers. For many of these children, these simple moments are nothing short of miraculous. For what is often the first time, each child has their mothers seeing them off to school, and she is clean and sober!

Life at Sojourner House reminds me of the powerful bond between mothers and children. No matter how troubled their lives, children long to have a relationship with their mothers. Every day I meet courageous women whose love for their children is one of; if not the only thing in their lives powerful enough to make them want to overcome their addictions. I see children who love their mothers unconditionally, and support them no matter how many times they have been disappointed.

Residents of Sojourner House and MOMS were invited to kick off the summer at the 18th Annual Strawberry Festival at Shadyside Presbyterian Church on June 10th. Our families enjoyed fun activities and games, pony rides, and delicious food - including strawberry shortcakes, hot dogs, and root beer floats! Everyone had a blast spending the evening outside in beautiful weather. Shadyside Presbyterian Church also donated all proceeds from the festival's activities to Sojourner House and MOMS!

The camp lasted five weeks and included activities like cooking, dance, and foreign language instruction, as well as outdoor activities.
